What originally brought you into the NFT space?

I was fascinated by the burgeoning market in digital art, and when I saw works by Beeple retailing for $1K and then going for $10K months later I knew something big was going on. I kept trying to get in on some of these works of art before they were available to the public, but couldn’t, so I figured the only way I’d ever get one was to make my own 😀

What month and year did you get involved in NFTs?

Summer 2021.

How did you come up with the idea for your NFT project?

I was browsing a few projects on OpenSea and quickly noticed that an ordinary HTML5 webpage could be used as the content for the NFT. Some projects took advantage of this to allow OpenSea visitors to interact directly with their NFTs, for example rotating around a 3D model. I thought, why not take it a step further. Why not roll a full-fledged game into an NFT. And I’m not talking about the interactive hangman equivalents I had seen before, but a _real_ game, something addictive, something fun. Generative Dungeon was born.

What makes your NFT project unique?

It’s one of the first NFT games, and the very first RPG that is also an NFT. Each dungeon is procedurally generated, but the layouts are the same for each particular NFT. There are different traits–tileset, avatar, number of levels, starting zone, starting scroll. And while there is in-collection rarity–certain tilesets are rared than others, as are certain avatars–overall the entire set is rare, because there are 80 million NFTS on OpenSea (I looked it up) and only 3000 contain a playable RPG. Our motto: Utility first, collectibility second.

How big is the team and what are their roles?

Pretty small. I’m the lead dev, and also work as art director, guiding a small team of artists/animators in their day-to-day duties. We also have people helping out on Twitter and Discord, and marketing.

Are there any mechanics or utility we should know about?

You can play the NFT as soon as you browse to it on OpenSea or our website. You can lock it via the Owners tab on our website, requiring visitors to enter a password before they can play. When locked, it also displays a custom message from the owner (useful if you have a rare NFT and want to rent it out for a fee). Locking is also useful if you plan to run contests on your NFT and don’t want people to memorize the layout of your dungeon ahead of time.

+
Where do you see NFTs in the next 3-5 years?

Utility first. We’re going to see less games being promised on the horizon after the mint date, and more games actually being released as NFTs. The rise of the gaming NFTs has begun.

What would you tell a newbie before beginning to invest in the NFT market? What should they look for?

Definitely a project with a solid roadmap and trustworthy team if you’re in it for the long term, or a project with a lot of hype if you’re in it for the short term and plan to flip on mint day.

Is there another NFT project you admire that we should reach out to next?

OpenSea is shilling Invisible Friends, might be a fun one 😀
