Interview with NFT Brands: Q&A with Blockchain Billies

Our good buddy from the Junkyard Dogs inspired us with his incredible project. They were early on ETH and we wanted to share in the creativity. Collecting NFT’s has always been fun, but contributing to the space has been humbling.

 I’ve been involved in NFT’s and crypto since February 2021, but my partners have been in the space longer. I’ve been researching and trading crypto for a couple of years now while my partner, {Billy} DerpsAlot has been actively trading for much longer.

After seeing the incredible projects launching around June of 2020, my other partner, {Billy} NoMates, started doodling ideas and daydreaming about all kinds of narratives – it started off with the narrative; story based. We had loads of ideas, but the Blockchain Billies soon took over. We met every night, here in Shanghai, to narrow down the script and once we had that, we started our search for our artist.

Without a doubt our art. {Billy} Plasmic Rapture is in a class of his own. Check out his other work on Instagram too, Plasmic Rapture.

We currently have ten members. I would consider myself the project manager; I do a little bit of everything (save the coding). {Billy NoMates is the creative guy – he loves the nostalgic elements in our narrative and continually develops it. {Billy} DerpsAlot is the community and crypto guy. He has loads of experience in this space. We have two software developers, {Billy} Bare and {Billy} Rambotoman. {Billy} Plasmic Rapture is our artist. Then we have three incredible moderators, {Billy} Indigo, Nickoo and Dzajac. Finally, we have an incredible Tribe (community), some of whom help me behind the scenes to arrange partnerships and collabs – {Billy} Tribe I consider one of our members.

So far we have our art and a great Tribe supporting our project. Then, we have partnered up with WAGMI VIP Club, who will be launching their token and multi-project staking pool in the coming weeks. We have partnered up with Honey too and will be staking with them very soon as well. Finally, we are developing a nostalgic arcade game where our four Tribes, Oracles, Scavengers, Cherch of Derp and Tech-heads will be playing for control over a percentage of the community wallet.

The Tribal Competition and Community-led Narrative

Post mint, we will develop a classic arcade style game, further developed into a Blockchain Billies-themed version. Your Billy will be integrated into the game, and based on its assigned Tribe, will battle it out against other Tribe members for prizes, and the all-important Tribal Trophy!

Every month or so, there will be a new competition where the Tribes can battle it out to claim the Tribal Trophy — which will be decorated in the winning Tribe’s colors and displayed in the Billies Desert Arcade Barn. Although all Billy holders will have voting rights on sections of the project, the Tribe holding the trophy at that point in time will have exclusive rights on the future of the project and narrative. If you own Billies from multiple Tribes, you’ll be able to choose which one you play with.

 Building the community has by far been the most challenging aspect. You have thousands of followers who are invested in every decision you make. Protecting their interests is our main priority.

Do your own research. There are an infinite number of projects out there and it’s really hard to discern which ones will keep moving. Don’t be tempted to go all in on a project without really getting involved in their community. If you can relate to the project’s ethos, you’re in a better position. Invest only as much as you’re willing to lose. It is a very challenging and competitive space.

Oh, loads, but let me list a few. Stoned Ape Club, Flamingos, Pesky Penguins, WATWalrus, Degen Apes, Junkyard Dogs, WAGMI VIP Club, Honey and Skyline come to mind. These are all projects who have built incredible communities. 

The founding members of the Blockchain Billies are all teachers . We were reluctant to advertise this at the start, because we felt that our field of expertise was soundly elsewhere, but now I think it’s really important to share this with everyone we can. Anyone, anyone, can get involved in this space, and the barrier to entry remains the amount of extra time, effort and love you put into your project or niche. Of course our end goal is to make this a full-time gig. We are not quite there yet, but will keep at it. Of course, it is essential that you find a strong team of hardworking and like-minded members. With this in place anything is possible.
