Top 5 NFT Games to Earn and Invest in 2022

NFT Games

NFT games are becoming popular with every passing month as developers build upon the play-to-earn model of decentralized gaming.

NFT games usually involve digital currency and the possibility of earning money and tokens simply by playing the games themselves. Because NFTs cannot be duplicated and have utilities in-game, they tend to appreciate and provide holders with a valuable asset that they can sell for profit.

To better understand how NFT games work, we’ve assembled a list of the best NFT games to earn and invest in 2022. These five games have been selected because they are fun, profitable, and innovative in the NFT scenario.

Let’s take a look at each of them

The Sandbox

The Sandbox is known as one of the best and most engaging NFT games for the last year.

Gameplay in the Sandbox involves playing games, building your games, or owning land of which you can take control yourself.

What makes The Sandbox a compelling metaverse and game is the vast repertoire of possible roles you can play in it. You can be an artist, a game reviewer, NFT collector, adventurer, or explorer that travels into the Metaverse going from game to game. The Sandbox is built on the Ethereum blockchain.

The Sandbox has a smaller market cap than Decentraland but a more extensive user base, on top of having one of the faster-growing cryptocurrencies. They have also developed a partnership with Square Enix and Atari, which is big news for gamers. These two will provide the gaming space here with more enormous innovative possibilities.

Decentraland

Decentraland is one of the big pillars of the play-to-earn Metaverse, consisting of a virtual world shared by Ethereum blockchain users that are also entirely crypto-based.

Decentraland uses two main crypto assets: LAND and MANA. LAND lots can be purchased using MANA, and you can build on top of them, as long as you can afford to do so. The value of the digital land plots you purchase might increase, just as if it were real estate you are buying in real life.

MANA is the currency used to purchase things in Decentraland. It’s used to purchase everything from collectibles, digital items, and digital clothing. MANA is obtained from the Uniswap exchange converted from other currencies.

To play Decentraland, all you need to install is your digital wallet, and then you can log in with your wallet account and enter the Metaverse. Here, you have the option of exploring the digital world, performing quests, talking with friends, and playing mini-games.

Decentraland provides creators with the option of creating quests, part of the toolkit for creators. For example, the Decentraland Foundation has a quest where players fetch ingredients for an elixir, known as the Drink of the Gods. Another type of quest involves players helping a character fix her watch and, in turn, obtaining a reward.

Axie Infinity

Axie Infinity is one of the biggest and most popular NFT games for those who enjoy collecting, breeding, and trading cute little critters not too different from Pokémon. Axie Infinity is a crypto pet game where you purchase Axies with Ethereum. Axie Infinity was developed by gaming studio Sky Mavis and had a pseudo-entry fee of roughly $1,500, as Axies became more and more expensive. Nowadays, it’s easier to get into the game with some basic Axies being as cheap as $30.

This is because to play the game you need first to purchase three Axies with Ethereum. The Axies have variable prices but some can cost perhaps $400 each or more.

Axie Infinity

Playing Axie Infinity involves seeking two possible assets, which can be purchased or obtained by playing daily quests in-game. These are SLP and AXS. SLP is used for breeding Axies and stands for Smooth Love Potion, of which there’s an unlimited supply. The other resource is AXS tokens, of which there are only 270,000,00 in-game, and those who own these have governance rights in-game. The Axies you breed can be sold for AXS tokens and eventually transferred into fiat currency.

As with Decentraland and The Sandbox, players can use crypto to purchase virtual plots of land from Lunacy, the game’s world.

The Axies have nine different classes. These are reptile, plant, dusk, aquatic, bird, dawn, beast, bug, mech. Similar to Pokémon type advantages, Axies have class advantages. In their case, Reptile, Plan, and Dusk beat Aquatic, Dawn, and bird. These three, in turn, beat Beast, Bug, and Mech. And these other three beat Reptile, Plant and Dusk. When you attack with a class advantage, you deal 15% more damage, though you’ll receive 15% less damage when attacked with a class disadvantage.

The Axie classes also affect their base stats. In particular, Dusk, Dawn, and Mech Axies are a little more special than other classes as the only way you can breed them is by breeding purebred Axies of different classes, with a 33% rate.

No two Axies have the exact same characteristics and build as they are NFTs. There are billions of different genetic mixtures and combinations for each possible Axie. This provides those interested in making a profit while also enjoying the breeding aspect of Axies a way to have fun and make money.

Gods Unchained

Gods Unchained is an NFT digital trading card game where you can play for free, keep, and even trade on open marketplaces. Imagine Hearthstone, Magic: The Gathering, or even Yu-Gi-Oh in the blockchain. The game’s development is led by the game director for MTG Arena, Chris Clay.

Gods Unchained mints cards and gaming valuables as NFTs. Unlike other famous online card games, developers can’t change the value of cards. That means no buffs, no nerfs, and no burning them out as they are minted as NFTs forever. The game had a beta launch in 2018 and is also built on Ethereum, featuring an ERC-20 token called GODS.

Players can collect cards by buying them or selling them in the in-game marketplace and, of course, compete against other players in online arenas. It’s free to play, and newcomers begin with 140 cards as a basic deck. They can unlock more cards by participating in tournaments, and they earn rewards by participating every week in competitive-ranked tournaments.

What makes Gods Unchained stand out from the rest of NFT games is how it uses Immutable X to make its trades easier and faster. Immutable X is a decentralized exchange capable of supporting up to 200 million trades per day.

Illuvium

Illuvium is an open-world RPG set in a sci-fi world, where players collect monsters that are also NFTs built on Ethereum. The game is scheduled to be released later in 2022. In Illuvium, players can obtain ILV, its native ERC-20 token, to purchase collectibles and creatures known as Illuvials. It’s the first major 3D open-world NFT game with a fantasy landscape, storytelling, and high-end NFTs that seem more from an AAA game than a mobile developer. More than 100 different Illuvials have specific stats, abilities, classes, and elemental affinities.

Final words

NFT videogames are a new concept in the gaming world. Gamers have been joining them out of a combination of curiosity and the possibility of a good return that translates even into real-world profits. With the growing interest of gaming developers such as Microsoft, Square Enix, and Blizzard into the NFT arena, it’s only a matter of time before NFT videogames take center stage of Web3 gaming.
